For each of our students targeting employment development, our Branches team comes together to identify various jobs the student may enjoy. Some of our students participate in identifying potential jobs they would like to try. We develop a list with them and they assist in the development of how the job is practiced within the school.
Next, the students skill repertoire is considered and compared to the skills required for each position. This includes whether the student currently has the skills in their repertoire or if they have the prerequisite skills needed to learn how to perform the job efficiently.
The roles and responsibilities are then incorporated into the student's daily or weekly schedule in order to practice the responsibilities within the school community.
Once the student is fluent in performing the responsibilities with minimal or no prompting by their staff or teacher, we introduce the student to the same job within the community, with a staff present to assist them.
Several jobs may be considered and practiced within the school prior to entering the community for job placement.
Branches School is developing a business within the school to provide job sampling and employment opportunities for our students! This is currently in development and plans to open this spring! Stay tuned for more information!
